We are delighted to announce that Kai Xu successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation entitled "Learning In Compressed Domains" on February 10th, 2021, and will have his Ph.D. degree conferred in May 2021.
Kai Xu started his Ph.D. study at PSCLab in Spring 2015 after receiving his Master's degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology, China. His Ph.D. research has been focusing on data-driven methods for data compression, representation, and perception with an emphasis on vision and wearable applications. Kai's research findings have been published in 9 conference papers, 2 journal articles, and 7 U.S. patents (5 pending) with a total of 247 citations and an h-index of 9 as of today. He is a recipient of the Completion Fellowship (a college-level merit-based award) and the CIDSE Doctoral Fellowship in the academic year of 2019-2020.
As part of his Ph.D. experience, Kai completed three internships with Samsung Electronics America, Alibaba Group, and Kuaishou Technology. Upon graduation, Kai has joined OPPO as a Senior Software Engineer.
